As we continued our summer vacation through Norway, Fjærland was merely supposed to be a pit stop on our way from Nigaardsbreen Glacier to our next activity in Åndalsnes. Fjord and glacier cruise. Formerly the only way to travel to Fjærland was by boat, but now highway 5 connects the village to Sogndal and Skei/Førde. The Fjærlandfjorden is a branch going north off the Sognefjorden, the longest fjord in Norway. The village area is located about 31 kilometres (19 mi) northwest of the municipal center of Sogndalsfjøra, along the Norwegian National Road 5. The village of Fjærland has 300 inhabitants and is situated by the Sognefjord next to the glacier Jostedalsbreen.
